Frequently Asked Questions
(Laser Hair Removal)
HOW DOES LASER REMOVE HAIR?
This treatment uses concentrated laser energy to target the hair follicles in the treatment area. Laser heating damages the follicle, causing current hair to shed and making it difficult for future hair to grow. The treatment leaves surrounding skin and tissue intact, minimizing discomfort and downtime after the procedure.
IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL SAFE?
Yes when it is performed by an experienced, qualified technician. At Alfa Wellness, all laser hair removal procedures are performed by certified technicians with over 7 years of experience. The devices used at Alfa Wellness has state-of-the-art technology. The procedure has a long track record of safety and success, with more than a million treatments performed in 2018 alone, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL HURT?
There can be some discomfort during the procedure, particularly in sensitive areas such as the bikini line and underarms. However, patients can elect to have topical anesthetic cream applied before treatment. Most patients do not require anesthetic cream.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
You might start to see some shedding within days of your first treatment session. Due to the growth cycle of hair, patients require a series of appointments to achieve a full outcome. Those results will become evident within a few days after your last session. Stubble, representing dead hair being shed from the hair follicle, will appear within 5-30 days from the treatment date. that is normal & they will fall out quickly.
HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST?
Once the results are achieved, the hair reduction is long-lasting and even permanent for some patients. Others may find that a touch-up session every year or two will keep them silky smooth.
HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED?
Conditions are different for everyone, therefore how many sessions you require will depend on the amount of hair, hair color, your genetic background and how closely you follow the schedule set by your technician. Most clients at Alfa Spa requires 5 to 6 sessions, and annual touch-ups.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE TREATMENT?
- It is imperative that you avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment. This is a must and no exceptions will be made.
- Tanning creams (self-tanner) should be avoided for at least 2 weeks.
- Do not tweeze, wax or epilate the area being treated for approximately 6 weeks prior to treatment.
- The night before treatment thoroughly shave all areas to be treated; skin must be clean and free of all hair.
WHAT ARE POST-TREATMENT CAUTIONS?
- No other epilation technique to remove hair on the area that was treated. By doing so, you may lead to potential stimulation of the hair follicle, in other words, you could potentially spark regrowth.
- Avoid direct sunlight at least 2 weeks after the treatment. Using a broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 or higher is critical when receiving laser treatments and is recommended ongoing for maintenance.
- Right after your treatment, redness & bumps at the treatment area are common; these may last up to 2 hours to 1 week longer. It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn for a few hours. Some skin smoothening like Aloe vera application could be ease discomfort of treated area.
- Avoid applying deodorants, makeup, moisturizers and lotions that contain artificial fragrance at least 48 hours to avoid trigger irritation.
- Try to avoid excessive exercise, the gym or the sauna for 24-48 hours because that cause excessive sweeting which leads to irritation on the treated area.
(Dermaplaning)
What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a treatment that uses a medical scalpel to gently exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin cells and remove vellus hair commonly known as “peach fuzz”. it can be used as an alternative to laser treatments and microdermabrasion or along with them for an enhanced result. This procedure will give your skin a more radiant appearance. Following the treatment, makeup application is smoother and other skincare products are able to penetrate deeper in turn making hem more effective.
Am I a good candidate?
The ideal candidate for Dermaplaning has aging, dry, rough, or uneven skin tone. Dermaplaning can also help reduce the appearance of shallow acne scars, fine lines and superficial hyperpigmentation.
Is the treatment safe?
Dermaplaning is extremely safe when its performed by an properly trained skincare professional with zero downtime.
Does it hurt? Will it cause cuts?
Dermaplaning is a painless treatment. There may be risks of cuts on the skin, however, they are small and very minor so heals faster than any other injury.
Will it make the hair on my face grow back thicker and darker?
No. There are different types of hair that grow on the body; vellus hair and terminal hair. Vellus hair is found on most areas of the body except palms, soles, lips and genital areas, whereas terminal hairs are found on the scalp, underarms and pubic region. The soft and fine vellus hair grows back at the same rate and texture.
How often can I have it done?
Dermaplaning can be performed every 3-4 weeks.
What is the difference between dermaplaning and microdermabrasion?
Both options are a form of physical exfoliation. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells from the skin, microdermabrasion also exfoliates the surface of the skin, but not as thoroughly or deeply as dermaplaning does.
